‘Tis not the season to get trollied

Posted by Kate Boundy on 02 December 2018

As we enter December we enter the season of parties and events where alcohol is often consumed in excess.  While you might want to get into the party spirit it’s important to keep tabs on how much you’re drinking. The phrase “sitting is the new smoking” has been around for the last few years.  This week a study was published stating that smoking is a much bigger problem than prolonged sitting.  The researchers found that smokers risk the development of medical problems and an early death far more so than those sitting for long periods. However, the study authors have acknowledged that sedentary behaviour increases the risk of a premature death and the development of chronic diseases by up to 20%.  Which is a pretty high statistic considering that it is often avoidable. This week a study published in the Journal, Occupational Medicine found that both employees and employers felt that being active in their leisure time would protect them from sitting for long periods at work… it doesn’t. While...
